Unicare's Business

Unicare is owned by WellPoint, a major player in the health insurance industry. Based in Indianapolis, Indiana, WellPoint owns several other large insurance companies and has over 42 million members.

 

WellPoint Health Networks was originally based in California. They started using the Unicare name for all their plans outside of California in 1995. In 2005, they merged with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and changed their name to WellPoint, Inc. Anthems office in Indiana became the headquarters of the new company.

 

WellPoint is a public company, and shares of the company are traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
