Strengths: Strengths include a low rate of uninsured population at 10.5 percent, ready access to adequate prenatal care with 80.8 percent of pregnant women receiving adequate prenatal care, a low occupational fatalities rate at 3.8 deaths per 100,000 workers and a moderate incidence of infectious disease at 13.5 cases per 100,000 workers.
Challenges: Challenges include a high violent crime rate at 562 offenses per 100,000 population, a high prevalence of obesity at 28.8 percent of the population, a high prevalence of binge drinking at 17.5 percent of the population and a high rate of deaths from cardiovascular disease at 336.3 deaths per 100,000 population.
